United we stand, divided we fall…

There’s a bit of sadness in the air

Lingering on the summer breeze

Ignored and unnoticed by many

Yet almost brings me to my knees

Awareness constricts my chest

My soul is flooded with doom

The weight of this vast world

Threatens to drag me to my tomb

Senseless acts of violence

Victims of wars all around

Quietly so many sit and wait

Too afraid to make a sound

The threats they come everyday

And yet we bide our precious time

Going about our everyday lives

Not giving a second thought about those crimes

Somehow it seems easier

To turn a tearful blind eye

Looking away from a world full of broken people

Never knowing what is truth or a lie

It’s so hard to find the courage

To make a difference or take a stand

When so much negativity flows around us

Dividing our hearts in this once cherished land

  3. Can’t turn a blind eye, Michelle. That’s how atrocities happen. Choosing love, understanding, compassion, and kindness, and acting on those principles every day is powerful. We do that, and we will change the world. 🙂

  6. I agree, we seem to have become desensitized to the violence going on in this world, in the country. Myself included – I find myself getting tired of hearing about it, admittedly I don’t always say a quick prayer for the people involved – I just get tired of hearing about it. That isn’t the way I should be.
