Feeling Defeated

Do you ever feel defeated by the words people say?

Do ever just wish they would all go away?

I’m just me… nothing more, nothing less.

So please don’t ask me, to suppress.

I can’t be the somebody, you might want me to be

You see… I’m my own person, and I’ve just got to be, me.

  1. Yes, you have got to be you. That is your calling and that is mine too.

  3. Michelle,
I tried being someone else for a time when I worked at a previous work place. I tried to conform and be the person everyone wanted me to be- including my husband and the very troublemaker coworker there ( who held the reins there). Believe me, I couldn’t live with the person I had become- I was Frankestein or something. During that period I understood really what the book Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was about.
No, never become someone else, it is too dangerous- not good for your health.

  4. It’s so hard when you can’t be accepted as you are, and when you have no way to stop it from happening, except to try and completely avoid the person altogether. And yet I’ve done it for years with this particular person, and I will continue to do so…. I’ve got to save my sanity somehow.

  5. All success to you. I agree – change and avoidance and keeping away from the notorious person for whom you must change is the way to go.

  6. Thanks Susie… Sadly, it really is the only way.
