The cost of free will…

You used to be enough

Now something has changed

My heart feels broken

My life rearranged

Can I pick up the pieces

Find every last one

Can you finish in me

The work which you’d begun

I’m tired of feeling lost

And I’ve searched everywhere

But no matter how hard I try

You just don’t seem to be there

I’m losing this battle

Defeated by my very own will

There’s nothing left inside me

This is just how I feel

I seek you night and day

Giving everything I’ve got

Still it always seems

As if it’s all for naught

I wonder if we will ever have

The relationship we once did

Or perhaps my unrighteousness

Is just too much to forgive

There are times when we can feel so separated from God.  It can seem as if we will never be able to find him again and yet these are the lies which the enemy wants our hearts to believe.  Never forget the truth… Jesus is always there waiting for us to return to him.  Nothing can ever separate us from His love.

Romans 8:31-39 (NLT)

Nothing Can Separate Us from God’s Love

31 What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? 32 Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? 33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. 34 Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.

35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? 36 (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) 37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  1. I think that we feel alone sometimes, and that we’re abandoned. Sometimes we just need to look around us to see that we’re never alone. Beautiful words, Michelle!

  5. By the way, where can I find this?

  8. I believe that we will never be separated from God’s love as long as we choose to use the love that he has provided us. No matter the hardship; as long as we stick to the loving self we are capable of being, we are not separated from God. Our hardships will remain as life tests to confirm who we wish to be.

After the poem, I maneuvered my mouse to leave silently. But then the verse that followed caught my eye and I can leave this message. Yes!!!!

  11. With so many things going on in the world, it’s hard not to feel alone and easy to forget that we are loved oh so deeply. Your title actually made me think about current events and yes, what is going on is at the cost of our own free will. We have the free will to love and be loved..we just can’t forget it. Thanks for this and I’ve missed reading your works, Michelle! I’ve been away from WordPress for too long and really hate myself for neglecting to write.

  12. I was just thinking about you this week and wondering where you’d gone! Yes this poem has many meanings. I was thinking especially of what is going on in the world and in the lives of my friends right now. I wanted to write from the perspective of the lies which we believe and follow it up with the truth. Hope you’re doing well my friend. Really have missed you. 🙂

  13. I’ve missed you too, Michelle 🙂 I’m going to make up for my absence. I’ve forgotten how much energy writing gives me..I just need to remember that feeling so I won’t stop again. It’s felt like I was missing something as soon as I stopped.

  15. Welcome back, Clarissa, and Michelle’s right: never forget the amazing feeling that writing gives you. It’s like magic to me. I don’t say this to be condescending or anything negative, but i firmly believe that we all need to be reminded of why we pursue our passions in the first place and the feelings they provide.

  18. You’re welcome. I only recently got back into my writing consistently, and so I’m on a bit of a magical high, so to speak. We needn’t ever forget our passions.:)

  19. I just now read this comment, and this really resonates:

” I wanted to write from the perspective of the lies which we believe and follow it up with the truth.”

It’s really interesting, and profound, too!

  20. We really do believe a million lies don’t we? But when we actually stop and think, the truth is almost always right there in front of us; if we are willing to look for it. 😉

  21. Oh yes, we do. Every fear we are told by the world are lies. Lies the enemy wants us desperately to believe, but you know what? I refuse to sit idly by and believe them. Not any more!:)

  29. Unfortunately we have only 2 set of holidays for festivals. Like you have Easter and Christmas. We called Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Azha. Which reminds me, Eid ul Fitr will come in June, so I will couple of days off 🙂
