  1. The coal black night was dismally cold and damp, and only a flicker of light illuminated the old dusty room. She crept carefully across the floor, sticking to the walls, careful to avoid the creaky spots in the middle. She had discovered those by accident several weeks ago, or was it months? She had lost track of time. Again. He hadn’t been very happy when he heard her moving around up there. Her place was on the worn out old mattress on the floor in the corner. It was pushed up against the far wall, a sheet thrown on top, more of an after thought than a courtesy. The nights that he lit the candle meant he was coming back, and she had better be waiting (and willing) when he returned. She learned that the hard way in the beginning. She wasn’t so willing then, but he had ways of “teaching enlightenment”, as he called it, in order to lead her down the path of acceptance.

Fuck acceptance, she thought, as she felt the scars along her thighs begin to throb in fear. She continued to make her way around the edge of the room, her feet carefully searching for the loose floorboard she had discovered the night before. Tonight she had
her own plan for lessons enlightenment. Tonight would be the last time she ever watched that damn candle burn and flicker angrily in the darkness. When she got out of here she would make sure she never lit another candle so long as she lived. If she lived.

That’s all I’ve got. I don’t have an ending. Sorry that it is so heavy! I didn’t intend for it to be. That’s just what came out.
