The Girl Who Had Everything – Writing 201: Poetry (Day 8 – Flavor, Elegy, Enumeratio)

girl-nature-smile_tn2

The Girl Who Had Everything

She was the flavor of the day
The talk of the town
When she came into sight
Everyone crowded around
She was a girl who had everything
Going her way
It was a shame it all had to end
On that one frightful day
Beauty and ambition left her
In the blink of an eye
She had been the life of the party
And left without saying goodbye
Then one bad decision
Left her in a collision
Her life now just a blur
Caused quite a stir
Many couldn’t believe
That she was now gone
A girl that had everything
And seemed so strong
Fate dealt her a poor hand
That terrible tragic day
And these sad memories
Will probably never go away
Reflecting back on her life
Many now say
They miss her and wonder
Why did she pay
Unfortunately so often
We reap what we sow
God bestows us with choices
And then lets us go
We can’t really question
The hows and the whys
It’s unfortunate for sure
When somebody we love must die
But we need to remember
The choices that we make
Can often lead us
To disastrous mistakes
We live and we learn
And get smarter each day
Hopefully before
We are taken away

The Crazies – Writing 201: Poetry (Day 7 – Neighborhood, Ballad, Assonance)

Funny-Rednecks-31

The Crazies

The Crazies as it’s defined
Is a neighborhood of all kinds
Here is some of what you’ll find…

A pastor who is always scheming
A polygamist who is usually beaming

A newlywed couple who are active and fit
A snobby white guy who acts like a twit

A homeschooling mother who hides in her house
A serial killer who is quiet as a mouse

A traveling duo who live the good life
An old geezer who has no wife

A preppy family with a dog named bogey
An obsessive control freak who is always smoking a stogie

A hoity-toity couple who spoil their dog
A girl who likes to write stories and blog

And last but not least let’s not forget the seniors
Or the girls that lay in the grass, we call them dreamers

All of these people can be found on our street
So come visit sometime, I’ll save you a seat!

Fatal Attraction – Writing 201: Poetry (Day 10 – Pleasure, Sonnet, Apostrophe)

vampire diaries 015

In the spirit of Halloween, my love for Vampire Diaries, and because this is the last assignment; I decided to spice things up a bit!  Enjoy!  🙂

Fatal Attraction

Darkness surrounded her cold dead soul
Entranced by her beauty he lost all control
With unabated lust he became her pawn
Never knowing that he would be dead before dawn
Ravenous passion heightened the pleasure
He had been marked by a poisonous treasure
She was pure perfection offering toxic affection
A snake in disguise circling her prize
Falling under her charm he was oblivious of harm
Cursed by her pleasurable yet fatal infection
He lost all distinct and intelligible direction
Before he could even come to his senses
He was paralyzed and left without any defenses
What she took was divine like a sweet red wine

Faces of Emotion – Writing 201: Poetry (Day 6 – faces, found poetry, chiasmas)

First of all let me explain this poem before you read it, or it really won’t make any sense at all. Here is the assignment I was given for today:

  • Write a poem about the word “face.”
  • Include “found poetry” – Found poetry is composed of words and letters that are collected from various places. They can be random or organized, and found in any source which contains words.
  • Use a “chiasmus” device – A chiasmus device is a repeated reversal of words.

I decided to use faces of emotion as my topic and found my words in an emotion thesaurus. I chose twelve different emotions and wrote those down. Then I went back and looked up each emotion and found the pages dedicated to those emotions. I searched for words alphabetically on each page until I ran out of words. Here is my finished result.
