A true treasure

My love for him

Was like no other

He touched my life

And was as close as a brother

We visited fascinating places

In imaginary worlds

And deeper feelings for him

Were soon unfurled

He was a friend to me

Like I’ve never known

Someone who was there

When I was completely alone

A true treasure of a man

Full of faith and love

Sent to be my devoted friend

From heaven above

My one true love…

You’re with me through my darkest days

Even during times when nobody else stays

You give me hope when I want to give up

There’s nobody else who can measure up

You surround me with your daily presence

And remind me of your timeless acceptance

You bring to mind an extraordinary kind of love

Which is sent to me from heaven above

You’re all I need if truth be told

My one true love worth more than gold

The Heart String

An invisible string connects us
And no matter how far away you go
When I feel the gentle pull of the string
I’m instantly all aglow

I feel this gentle tug so often
And yet I never get tired of its hold
The string reminds me that you are always there
And will be until I’m quite old

Every day I think of you
Until the day is done
This string which ties us is completely unbreakable
And binds our hearts as one

So when you feel the pull
Of my devoted and warm loving soul
Don’t forget that I am always here
Perpetually wishing you were near

Next time you hear someone given the title of hero, think about this…

“A true hero doesn’t think for a single moment about himself; but instead, in wholehearted concern for another.” ~M

The General

In the foggy mist

Of the formidable night

He was the one

Who was guided

By the light

Those who fought near him

Clung to his side

Completely convinced

He should be

Their noble guide

The sundry of wise answers

Which he invariably gave

Seemed to keep the men

From their rapidly

Advancing graves

Each placed their ardent trust

In his dignified command

Knowing that through him

They may eventually see

Their revered homelands

*After writing this poem, I came across this news article about General Patton.  I had never really read much about Patton until today.  I think it’s funny, how a poem can sometimes come to my mind, before even having the knowledge of what or whom I’m actually writing about.  Does this ever happen to any of you?

#MidnightMadness – 3/27/2017

As I was leaving my daughter’s bedroom tonight after tucking her into bed, she called out to me in her sweet quiet little voice, and said, “I’m so glad I have you as my mom.”  Of course, I had to rush right back in and give her another hug.  She is just too precious for words.  Thank you God, for blessings such as these.

A true cord of love

The filaments of affection

Are often broken

Tossed to the side

Like an old forgotten token

Sometimes a thread of devotion

Just cannot stay

It’s the truth I’m afraid

Though it’s sad to say

And some strands are merely

Carried away on the breeze

Eventually settling in

Somewhere amongst the trees

Yet a true cord of love

Is hardly ever lost

For losing one of these

Comes with an insurmountable cost

The mind of a poet

Oh the lovely mind of a poet

Such an odd yet dreamy mess

Bursting forth with curious ideas

Meant to excite and impress

And when the pages of her mind

Begin to spin out of control

Nothing can stop her trusty pen

Which is linked devotedly to her soul

Lazy days – #RomanticTuesday

Goosebumps tingle

My satiny skin

Giggling as you

Gather me in

Soft caresses

As we embrace

Against cotton sheets

And silky black lace

Our bodies meld

And unite as one

As we disregard

The fast rising sun

Enjoying each other

In every possible way

Welcoming in

Another lazy day

What I loved about you…

I loved the random things you used to say

You could always brighten up my day

I loved the crazy connection we had

You made me happy when I was sad

I loved the funny things we shared

You always showed me how much you cared

I loved your dedication to people in need

You were always looking to do a good deed

I loved the passion you had for writing

You wrote words which were incredibly inviting

I loved the way your accent could be heard

You showed off your British side in every word

I loved the way you noticed beauty all around

You saw God’s glory in everything you found

I loved the way you would encourage me

You always saw things which I couldn’t see

I loved the way you became my friend

You were somebody in which I could always depend

I loved all of these things about you and so much more

You were the kind of friend I’d always hoped for

The Invitation

A lipstick sealed letter

Containing a heart so true

Intrigued his wandering mind

Left him wondering what to do

A million exciting thoughts

Permeated his eager young head

Yet the thought of a forever

Filled him with uncertainty instead

He couldn’t fathom the idea

Of being tied to only one

And thus his life of anguish

Began before he’d even begun

Cold as the letter became

He finally accepted the invitation

Yet those words of love grew stale

And eventually lost their motivation

The young man hadn’t realized

That love and devotion can often expire

And in the end he was left

Completely alone and uninspired

The Daily Post prompt – Invitation

Princess Diana…

Her zest for life

Gave hope to the weary

Her eagerness to please

Helped the lost on their journey

Her fervor for love

Ignited a desire for passion

Her devotion to peace

Caused many to show compassion

Her concern for the needy

Lifted the spirits of the downtrodden

Her inclination to overcome

Spread optimism to the forgotten

Her regard for humanity

Swept through the world

Her desire to triumph

Brought unity unfurled

Her vigor of spirit

Has never been erased

Her dedication to purpose

Enabled the disgraced

Her enduring soul

Still floods the earth with light

Her ability to love

Was such a beautiful sight

The Vision

Cool sparkling waters carried me off. I found myself floating freely in a sea of swirling blues and greens. Shimmering waters held me secure as I glided off toward the last flickering embers of the rapidly fading sun. As a leaf, I was free to drift wherever the current would take me. Sailing along, at last I came to rest beside an old creaky wooden fishing boat; which was resting lazily in the middle of the vast open sea. Looking up through the blinding rays of the setting sun, I was suddenly greeted by an all too familiar face. My savior leaned over the side of the boat; gently lifting me from the rippling waters and cradling me in the palm of his hand. He stared down at me with a look of pure love and devotion. After a few minutes of gazing back into his deep brown eyes, he leaned down and kissed me ever so sweetly. He then raised up his hand, lifting me up toward the opalescent sky; stretching out his arm as far as it would go. Then, all of a sudden, I transformed into a pure white dove; flying off toward the last remnants of the glistening sun, as it began to dip slowly below the crystal clear waters. All I remember thinking is… freedom at last.
