The Prison I Create

There are no bars keeping me in, there is no door without a key in.

All the lights are on without a flicker or dim, my soul free to wonder out or in.

And yet I stay frozen to one spot, unable to get past the lock that is not.

I sit and stare at my loves fading smile, trapped in the memory of when I could hold her for a while.

I curse myself and my internal latch, that I cannot get loose from this imaginary catch.

My hands are sore, my eyes are weak, my internal light ever growing darker and bleak.

The man I once was becoming a ghost in time, locked behind this illusion of mine.

Gone of days when life was a dream to catch, why can I not get past this imaginary latch.

There are no bars, there is no steel, why does my mind command me to kneel.

I have no words, only hate, inside this prison I do create.

I scratch a marking on the wall, to remind me I must obey or face the fall.

And fall I do, further still, into this invisible pit I created by the freedom of my own free will.

The hangman’s noose so appealing, but today is not my time, I remain for the true love of mine.

No illusionists trick, nor jailers whip, will see me lose my iron like grip.

So I will go on inside my imaginary jail and yes there will be a time that I shall prevail.

#MidnightMadness – 5/19/2017

1

The coal black night was dismally cold and damp, and only a flicker of light illuminated the old dusty room.

Now you finish the story… No compty’s please!  Let’s see what you got!  😉

Rescued

female-depression

So lost was I

In a dark realm

Of despondency

Where love

Was only imagined

And ever fleeting

So lost was I

In a place

Where dreams

Were destroyed

The very instant

They were born

So lost was I

In a world

Of temporary pleasures

Where words

Became everything

And then nothing

So lost was I

In an empty hope

Seeking acceptance

From others

Who only sought

To steal my soul

So lost was I

In a game

Where rules

Were optional

And the players

Took advantage

So lost was I

In complete desperation

Yearning to find

Someone to fill

The void

In my broken heart

So lost was I

In the emptiness

Which I felt

Causing my mind

To lose faith

In all that mattered

So lost was I

In utter darkness

And then light

Fell upon

My tear streaked face

And I was rescued

The Attributes of God

who-is-god

Today I wanted to talk a little bit about who God really is. Have you ever really thought about what God is like? I have spent years compiling a list of the attributes of God. On days when I feel distant from Him, I reach for my list to see the way the Bible defines Him. Somehow knowing what He is like, gives me more confidence in my relationship with Him. The Bible holds the truth about who He is and what He stands for, so that we can gain a better understanding of Him. I would like to share with you the list that I have put together, and I would also like to know if any of you have something to add to the list and where it can be found in the Bible. Here’s my list:

God is….

  • A consuming fire – Hebrews 12:29
  • My strong fortress – 2 Samuel 22:33
  • Spirit – John 4:24
  • Love – 1 John 4:8
  • Great – Psalm 147:5
  • Abundant in strength – Psalm 147:5
  • Understanding – Psalm 147:5
  • The first – Isaiah 44:6
  • The last – Isaiah 44:6
  • The only God – Isaiah 44:6
  • The maker of all things – Isaiah 44:24
  • The head of Christ – 1 Corinthians 11:3
  • A God of peace – 1 Corinthians 15:33
  • Light – 1 John 1:5
  • A Jealous God – Deuteronomy 4:24
  • A witness between you and me – Genesis 31:50
  • A compassionate God – Deuteronomy 4:31
  • The faithful God – Deuteronomy 7:9
  • Just – 2 Thessalonians 1:6
  • A warrior – Exodus 15:3
  • My strength – Exodus 15:2
  • My song – Exodus 15:2
  • My salvation – Exodus 15:2
  • Majestic in holiness – Exodus 15:11
  • Awesome in praises – Exodus 15:11
  • Highly exalted – Exodus 15:21
  • A victorious warrior – Zephaniah 3:17
  • The shepherd and the guardian of our souls – 1 Peter 2:25

Do any of these attributes speak to your heart more than another? The last two are my favorite… He is a victorious warrior and the shepherd and guardian of my soul. Who could want anything more? Please feel free to add your attributes of God in the comments section and also add the reference for where you found the attribute. I would love to add more to my ever growing list!

I also found this as I was researching…

Prism of resplendent light

Rain down on yours truly tonight

You’re ever my stunning delight

Beautifully exquisite and bright

Please clear my forsaken sight

And vivify this lonesome night

Comfort me as I rigorously write

As jumbled thoughts attempt to unite

Notice me under this azure moonlight

And tell me it’s going to be alright

Afford me your wisdom and foresight

And guide me with your luminous starlight

Reflections In Morning Light

I wake up

and see the morning sun

Feel the rays warm cold skin

as curtains are parted in joy

All around me, life is sounding

birds tweeting, cats meowing

and people going to work

As I wake up

my heart beats faster

my head swivels, preparing for the day

my hands readied for this game

Inside me is stirring

sad bowels

wise as owls

I shouldn’t have eaten that day old salad

Waking up

I notice the many emails from the night

Comments from you

appreciating how and what I write

Fully awaken

with goals to be taken

and expectations to be shaken

I am grateful for the light

It keeps me warm

it keeps me in the right

it keeps me

alive

May I never forget…

sunlight-166733_960_720

You are my light

On the darkest of days

A help even in times

When I can’t find my way

You are my shield

When the enemy attacks

Please convince me

To never look back

You are my shelter

When I’ve no place to go

May I never forget

This is so

You are my victor

And my best friend

Your love will shine

Until the cold bitter end

You are my hope

In the midst of the storm

With you I never feel

Lost or forlorn

You are my redeemer

And giver of breath

Remind me I’m yours

Unto the day of my death

Be Somebody – Thousand Foot Krutch

“Be Somebody”

I’m just the boy inside the man, not exactly who you think I am
Trying to trace my steps back here again so many times
I’m just a speck inside your hand, you came and made me who I am
I remember where it all began so clearly

I feel a million miles away, still you connect me in your way
And you create in me something I would’ve never seen

When I could only see the floor, you made my window a door
So when they say they don’t believe, I hope that they see you in me

After all the lights go down, I’m just the words you are the sound
A strange type of chemistry, how you’ve become a part of me
And when I sit alone at night, your thoughts burn through me like a fire
You’re the only one who knows who I really am.

We all wanna be somebody, we just need a taste of who we are.
We all wanna be somebody, we’re willing to go but not that far.

And we’re all see through, just like glass
And we can shatter just as fast
That light’s been burned out for a while,
I still see it every time I pass
It was lost in the corners of my mind,
Behind a box of reasons why
I never doubted it was there,
It just took a little time to find and even when…

I feel a million miles away, still you connect me in your way
And you create in me something I would’ve never seen

When I could only see the floor, you made my window a door
So when they say they don’t believe I hope that they see you in me

After all the lights go down, I’m just the words you are the sound
A strange type of chemistry, how you’ve become a part of me
And when I sit alone at night, your thoughts burn through me like a fire
You’re the only one who knows who I really am

We all wanna be somebody, we just need a taste of who we are
We all wanna be somebody, we’re willing to go but not that far
We all wanna be somebody, we just need a taste of who we are
We all wanna be somebody, we’re willing to go but not that far

I’m just the boy inside the man, not exactly who you think I am
Trying to trace my steps back here again so many times

When I could only see the floor, you made my window a door
So when they say they don’t believe, I hope that they see you in me

Wishing on a star…

constellation-1851128_960_720

Twinkle twinkle little star
Out beyond the world so far
Do you see me standing here?
Reaching out to pull you near?
I’m making a heartfelt wish
Under the flicker of your light
Praying that you’ll stay with me
All through this cold winter night
Send your shimmering love
Straight down here to set me free
Please set it lovingly ablaze
For all the world to see

A voice of recognition…

hands-996978_960_720

Through the horrific

Screams of fright

A voice of recognition

Whispered in the night

Face now pale

And eyes quite wide

Whimpering and terrified

From the voices inside

A dim yet growing light

Began to fill the expanse

An alluring view

A sight which entranced

Abruptly her fear

Began to subside

As she questioned her life

Wondering if she had died

The vision she beheld

Was stunning in appearance

And she held her breath

Resigned to see its disappearance

And yet the presence instead

Came quite near

Suddenly reaching out

Wiping away all of her tears

The ethereal being

Began to cry too

And she was unsure

Of what she should do

Confusion marked

Her questioning face

As she looked upon a being

Of infinite love and grace

And as she gazed

She finally knew

This was her king

Most magnificent and true

Her heart soared

And a slight smile appeared

As the voices inside

Had completely disappeared

Her healer had come

To set her free from the pain

And forever in her life

She now knew he’d remain

I’ll meet you there…

human-1215160_960_720

I’ll meet you there under a splendid moonlit sky
Where lightning bugs play
And the clouds drift lazily by

I’ll meet you there under the watchful eye
Of the old spotted owl
Who calls from a glen nearby

I’ll meet you there under the ancient willow tree
Her soft tendrils reach out to embrace us
And then lazily recede to set us free

I’ll meet you there under the shimmering stars
Their comforting winks warm us
And smile down on us from afar

I’ll meet you there under the shadow of the hill
Her rugged terrain is blanketed for the eve
And her shadowy presence stands gloriously still

I’ll meet you there under the watchful gaze of the hidden gazelle
Their quiet presence is felt, but never seen
It’s a magical place here in which they dwell

I’ll meet you there under the cool breeze of the night
As the good Lord looks down upon us
And guides us with his glorious light

I’ll meet you there…

Moonlight

blue-night-1252017_960_720
Blue hazy streams of light
Serenely fall
Creating silent shadows
That cascade down my wall

Mysterious flickers
Dance through the night
Permeating the spaces
That are void of light

These magical beams
Cast illuminating hues
Of greens, purples,
And brilliant blues

Amazed and in awe
Of their brilliant show
I am mesmerized by
Their enlightening glow

These surreal tints
Soothe my worn out soul
As events of the year
Have surely taken their toll

Captivated by
This radiant and alluring sight
I am reminded of all
That is resplendent and bright

As the night slowly fades
And the morning draws near
The message the moonlight brings
Is perfectly clear

Even in the darkest of places
Light can filter in
Leaving behind a sense of peace
And happiness within

He is near

elegant-fantasy-girl-walking-towards-the-sun

I feel your presence all around me and the light of your glory never grows dim.

I stand alone and wait for you to rescue me from the evils of the night.

I feel your presence flooding my soul and I long to be held by you.

The thin veil that separates us brushes lightly against my skin, and I am reminded that you are near.

We are worlds apart and yet just a breath away.

A Chance Meeting With Splendor

Just happening by
She spies a hidden path
Light filtering its way
She is drawn to this place by unknown forces
She takes a chance
Gracing the sunlit path
Finding tranquility and serenity
Waiting for her there
Enraptured by loveliness
She hesitates to take a step further
The trees begin to blush in anticipation of her touch
With trembling hands she anxiously reaches out
She delicately grasps the new-found birth
Holding her breath
She is overcome with pleasure
She is delighted and finds her heavenly treasure
Bringing forth the branches closer
A profound sense of wonder overwhelms her
Fragrant overtures overtake her
She is witness to tiny buds aching to be born
Glorious little blossoms waiting to burst forth
Soon their mesmerizing scent will enrapture maidens
Who will come and dance beneath the fruitful boughs
Merriment and magic will in abundance fill the air
As the wind steadily gathers momentum
Older aging petals begin to leap in blissful measures
Into the cool soft breeze they dash
Floating gently to the ground
Bringing splendor all around
An enchanting world springs alive
With perfect pink petals dancing on the wind
Unaware of their purpose and intent
She finds herself holding onto hope
This path of delight brings healing and light
The trees curtsy and bring life anew
To the gentle soul who just happened by
