Do you know how worthy you are

Well, just look about you

Look close, look far

You’ll see trees, lakes and mountains, the sun, moon and stars

That, my friend is how worthy you are

Know in your heart, that this paradise golden

Was created for you, in times so long ago, olden

And there was no test you had to take, to know if this, your home, you should make

For the Creator, knew the master plan, that the space needed to be oh, so worthy of man

Yet, there are times, in this space, we feel so lost

As though we haven’t the money to cover the cost

Of the splendor around us, those vast open spaces

We long to retreat to our hide away places

We want to punish ourselves for we think we are less

Than all that surrounds us; with all we’ve been blessed

And then we get to feeling smaller than small

Worries and burdens loom so very tall

It’s hard to remember to simply close our eyes

And go to that still, small place inside

To find the peace and love that we truly seek

And grow beyond the illusion of being weak

For you are the container for the world’s greatest riches

Held together without staples or stiches

You were entrusted with a glorious spirit, a beautiful soul

Which are more valuable than all the world’s gold

More perfect and awesome than all we can see

For you were blessed with the opportunity, just to BE

Life is the most intoxicating of perfumes and you, the finest of jars

And that, my friend, is how worthy you ARE!

Thank you

Thank you for comforting me today

When nobody else would

I don’t always come to you first

And I really always should

You wrap your loving arms around me

Even when I don’t deserve a thing

I’m blessed by your amazing love

Which you forever bring

You saved me

So close was I

To giving up

A crushed spirit

So abrupt

Flashes of death

Crossed my mind

Images of

The disastrous kind

Then you came along

And enlightened my soul

Freeing my bindings

From life’s long toll

Simple words of comfort

Cast their spell

And I found myself

Instantaneously well

Love… beyond a shadow of a doubt

I’ve loved you for as long as I can remember

Maybe even more

I’m still not sure how or when it began

But our love has endured

We’ve faced mountains of opposition

And still we continue to hold on

I have loved you beyond reason at times

Even feeling foolish for doing so

There were times when I questioned everything

I cannot forget how you tore my heart in two

Or how you decided to mend it all at once

The patching of it was quite painful

Like a threaded needle piercing my flesh

And yet I wanted you to do it

I figured how else could I ever live

I couldn’t very well survive with a gaping wound

So I gave you a second chance

The opportunity to fix what was broken

There are days now when I hardly even notice the scar

And yet others when it’s still all I can see

You were the one person I could trust

The only one I had ever truly loved

But the inconceivable sins of life crushed us

Both of us were literally smashed into the ground

And normalcy hasn’t been the same since

Perhaps this is progress right here

In these words and in the light of each new day

I’m discovering that I would rather die

Than to let you go from me

The shrapnel is still buried deep within my chest

A burden I will likely take to my grave

Yet I know I have no other choice

Because if I were to try and let you go

My soul would still cling to yours

The bond is too strong and the knot too tight

It’s simply impossible to fully pull away

And so I’m trying desperately to let you back in

To trust you again the way I once did

And love you beyond a shadow of a doubt

Let’s Talk

Let’s talk about things we don’t usually talk about.

Let’s talk about the pain people hide beneath the cuts.

Let’s talk about the secrets students bury because they are afraid to talk.

Let’s talk about the dust that old hunchback cleaners with warm smiles sweep out of classrooms, creating sandstorms.

Let’s talk about the whispers flown miles away from circles of teenagers.

Let’s talk about the books we are dying to read but won’t discuss.

Let’s talk about the corrupt we motivate.

Let’s talk about the things we hate, that boil our blood underneath the skins we dread.

Let’s talk about the sky.

Let’s talk about death and how the unknown prevents us from sleeping.

Let’s talk about the spirits within us that are begging, begging to take over.

Let’s talk about the words we said, didn’t mean to say, wanted to say, couldn’t say, wished to say, lived to say, and died trying to say.

Let’s talk about the future we hope to see in a crystal ball.

Let’s talk about those dodging bullets and bracing violent waves.

Let’s talk about the dreams that have shattered and have yet to be reborn.

Let’s talk about those without a place to call home.

Let’s talk about love and how we all secretly wish for it.

Let’s talk about how selfish and greedy we all are.

Let’s talk about how cruel we’ve made the world and how we are going to make all of it stop.

Faith and Trust

I really wanted

To give up today

And for a moment I believed

It was the only way

I couldn’t see past

The end of my own nose

When suddenly a problem

Abruptly arose

And since then

It’s been eating me alive

I just don’t know how

I will ever survive

Yet days like these

Are the ones which make us stronger

So I will try my best

Not to dwell on this any longer

I must hold fast to my faith

For it’s where my heart resides

And trust that the good Lord

Will stay close by my side

Making a memory

I made a lasting memory

Of your face today

As you sat on the bed

You happened to glance my way

Your eyes then stared back

Gazing into mine

Capturing that fleeting moment

Almost lost in a second of time

Never will I forget

The look upon you face

The meaning behind your smile

Will never be erased

Entangled thoughts lingered

In the space in-between

And you stole my longing heart

In a moment I hadn’t foreseen

If you were gone…

If you were suddenly taken away

My heart would rupture into a thousand pieces

So I pray with the last bit of strength and energy that I have

From this old suffering soul of my own

That love will cradle you in the palm of his hand

And keep you ever safe and free from harm

I’d be even more lost than I already am

Without your sweet face in my life

And time would miss you to infinity and back

And the world would cease to be a welcoming home

It’s been awhile

Since I’ve put pen to paper

Seems the ink

Has begun to dry out

Trying in earnest to imitate

The stale blood in my veins

My heart no longer beats

The way it once did

Seems the song it used to play

Is lost in a place

Which I’m convinced

Never really existed

Beneath that old oak tree

On a moonlit night

Could only have been a dream

Since it’s become a mere vapor

Of a memory

And doesn’t stir my soul any longer

Vacant is the only sound remaining

Yet it courses vigorously

Through my veins

Solitude and emptiness

Cause me to question the residue

Which lingers faintly in the stagnant air

And like a handprint

On a mirror

The love I gave away

Was easily forgotten

And simply wiped away

When it was at long last remembered

In memory of you…

For all the wars when we lost someone

For those heart wrenching nights when the battles weren’t won

For the hours when many stood boldfaced

For the many who returned feeling sadly disgraced

For the ones who gave their lives so we could be free

For the many who faced torture and didn’t flee

For all the soldiers who fought brave and tall

For the sacrifices so many made for us all

I’m proud to reflect on everything you gave

And today I weep for you as you lie in your graves

Nobody can frustrate me like you

You have no idea what you do

Throwing me into a daily tizzy

Simply makes me faint and dizzy

Round and round we go each day

Irritated by what the other has to say

And yet there’s love in the midst

It’s the only way we can coexist

My one true love…

You’re with me through my darkest days

Even during times when nobody else stays

You give me hope when I want to give up

There’s nobody else who can measure up

You surround me with your daily presence

And remind me of your timeless acceptance

You bring to mind an extraordinary kind of love

Which is sent to me from heaven above

You’re all I need if truth be told

My one true love worth more than gold

Borrowed Heart

I borrowed your heart for a day

I desperately needed the time away

And although there wasn’t much to say

You listened and cried with me anyway

Now I can only hope and pray

That eventually I will find my way

Thanks for lending your heart for a day
