Masquerader – Writing 201: Poetry, Day 4 (Imperfect, Limerick, Enjambment)

Masquerader

Look into my soul and there you’ll find

An imperfect soul

An imperfect mind

This ugly abyss deficient and flawed is secretly a place of

Perversion

Fraud

Though I struggle to be good my twisted heart

Fails

I wrestle with myself to no easy

Avail

I wonder…

Can my heart be redesigned?

Or is this the way…

I’ll forever be defined…

Unfair games

depressed-little-girl

Oh the games people play

They are never very much fun

It seems nobody ever wins

After all is said and done

If the games keep up long enough

It’s likely someone will get hurt

And it’s so hard to watch a person

Get dragged through the dirt

The world can certainly be

A bit of a rough playground

And I’ve seen so many people

Completely lost and cast down

It’s often hard to watch

These brutally unfair games

And sitting on the sidelines

I hear nothing but useless blame

I think what often happens

Is that selfishness takes control

Leaving people searching

For really anything at all

And down that darkened road

Compassion goes astray

Leaving an empty bitter heart

To go searching for its prey

And when this happens

Another game begins

A poor innocent bystander

Doesn’t stand a chance to win

The same disastrous plotting

Begins another round

While unsuspecting people

Get plastered to the ground

Such a cruel world we live in

So sad to watch others get hurt

Keeps many people on guard

Trying their best to stay alert

And is this any way to live

Always awaiting our terrible fate

Can’t we just love one another

Do away with so much hate

But the peacemakers are few

A rare bunch in a weary land

If only there were more people

Prepared to take a stand

Losing faith…

coast-evening-sun_tn2

When we lose sight of faith, this is where we end up…

Always waiting
Always feeling hopeless
Expectations never come

Always crying
Always feeling broken
Healing never comes

Always hurting
Always feeling pain
Relief never comes

Always sighing
Always feeling defeated
Victory never comes

Always lost
Always feeling abandoned
Support never comes

Always searching
Always feeling frustrated
Answers never come

Always exhausted
Always feeling powerless
Strength never comes

Find Him…

And He said to them, “Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you. ~Matthew 17:20

*I’m smiling right now because as I said earlier, I’ve been feeling exhausted; which is why I’m reposting these older blog posts of mine instead of writing new ones.  Well, as most of you have seen, I have a “read a random post” button, at the top of my blog.  I decided to randomly pick my reposts by clicking on that button.  Surprise… surprise… as to what came up first, this blog post of course!  God must be speaking to me, lol….  He always knows… 😉

A Sonnet – #RomanticTuesday

IMG_3570

You won this heart of mine, my dearest one

Love wafted me away to be enslaved

The battle was not fierce nor very long

My heart was ravaged by your love and craved

More of your blessed tender gentleness

Gushing from the depths of your soul’s own heart

A love that flowed, empowered by loves sweetness

Lodging and growing in my soul as part

Of my being and this new spirit

Consumed my heart in its entirety

Leaving a red hot glowing ember lit

To burn in constant faith eternally

A love that will not die nor can be quenched

The night I travel deaths dark shadowed trench

By, Charles S. Smead (1909-1972)

*Charles is my great uncle, who died the very same year I was born.  I recently acquired his book of poems, which I am really enjoying.  I will probably continue to share more of his poetry from time to time.  After reading the entire book, I can now see where my love of poetry must have come from.  His words really speak to my heart.  So in honor of my Great Uncle Charlie, I really hope all of you will enjoy this poem too.

The mind of a poet

portrait-1371899_960_720

Oh the lovely mind of a poet

Such an odd yet dreamy mess

Bursting forth with curious ideas

Meant to excite and impress

And when the pages of her mind

Begin to spin out of control

Nothing can stop her trusty pen

Which is linked devotedly to her soul

Snow

Written by, Autumn Cook (age 8)

For several months now, my daughter Autumn has been asking me to post this poem she wrote about snow.  Well today, she came running into my bedroom and announced that she had a big surprise for me waiting on my desk.  When I got to my desk, her lovely poem was waiting.  She was all smiles and giggles, as she watched me finally agree to post her poem.  I feel like a terrible mother for not posting this sooner, and yet like the saying goes… “Out of sight, out of mind.”  So today, she made sure to put her poem in a place, where she knew I was sure to see it; and what a wonderful poem it is!  Hope you enjoyed reading her poem, and if you did, please leave her a comment.  I’m sure she would be tickled to know what others think about what she’s written.  😉  Have a very blessed day!  ~M xo

Buckets of Wishes

glow-worm-cave-new-zealand

Scattered haphazardly about

Filling the great expanse

Lies infinite buckets of wishes

Created carefully in advance

Each one brims to overflowing

Radiating iridescent dreams

And pools of liquid star dust

Gush out between the seams

These shimmering streams of magic

Mesmerizingly cascade

Throughout the mighty caverns

Searching for crevices in which to invade

It’s a curious sight to observe

A spectacle most will never behold

And some believe it a mere fabrication of the mind

Because they trust what they’ve always been told

After witnessing such an extraordinary scene

And watching moonbeams slosh upon the floor

I can honestly tell you without a doubt

This bizarre place isn’t just folklore

So I invite you to come and take a glimpse

Into this world of whimsy and fun

Come fly with me to the moon and back

I promise you’ll love it a ton!

For all of my poetic friends out there, this one’s for you!

img_0024

Some of you may know this and others may not, but I have only been writing poetry for about a year now.  I started this blog a couple of years ago, writing mostly short stories and some inspirational quotes.  And now as most of you have probably noticed, I have switched to writing mostly poetry.

In fact, I counted my poems the other day, and in a years’ time, I have written almost 400 poems.  I was certainly amazed when I realized how many I had written, and that doesn’t even include the ones in the “To be completed” folder.  There’s probably another 100 in there.

To me this tells me, that I’m finally making progress, and that feels really good.  I love the thrill I get when I complete a job, and I know I’ve put forth my best effort.  And now because of my effort, I’ve had a store owner become interested in my work.

While I was downtown with a friend one day, I got to talking with one of the store owners, and I explained to her that I am a writer, and told her about my blog.  Well apparently, she searched for my blog and liked what she saw, and so the next time I was downtown, she ended up asking me if she could sell my poems at her shop.

So over the past few weeks, I have been getting my poems ready to sell.  I thought I‘d give all of you a quick tutorial on what I did, just in case you decide you’d like to learn about a fun creative way, to sell your poems too.

Here are the basic supplies you will need, if you decide to make this project.  (Frame, ribbon or other types of decorations (see pictures below), mat, scissors, surface protector, and a hot glue gun.

img_0029

Here are examples of some other decorative materials, that you could use.

img_0027

img_0034

Then, it’s just a matter of affixing the ribbon, or other decorative item, to your mat. (Cut your pieces, then… wrap, tie, glue, etc.)

img_0031

And in the end, you may want to make a few more like these…

img_0033

Then, the only thing left to do, is to put your finished mat and poem, into a frame of your choice, and there you go!

Brianna

Your gentle spirit

Makes me smile

You’ve got your own

Unpredictable style

You walk to the beat

Of your own drum

I love to listen to you

Sing and hum

Like a bird in flight

Your spirit soars

The music you compose

Is completely yours

Your artistic skills

Are quite impressive

Through drawing and writing

You’re so very expressive

I’m amazed by your talent

And how gifted you really are

You’re my sweet daughter Brianna

My bright shining star!

Internal Conflict

walk-in-dark1

My heart and soul fusses

Disagreeing with my mind

And the emotions within me

Lay dormant and undefined

The backburner in my head

Is where I hide each regret

Desperately trying to tidy up

Hoping someday I’ll forget

The life I once knew

Now a diminishing vapor

The blueprint of my dreams

A balled up mess of paper

Plagued by so many doubts

Which randomly appear

A constant state of confusion

Leaves me feeling so unclear

And yet in the quietness

Of the still night air

I am once again reminded

That I shan’t not despair

For I know deep within

The addiction to this pain

I have nothing more to win

And certainly nothing left to gain

So I take a deep breath

Letting the panic subside

Back once again to my old self

Where I generally reside

Thoughts of the distant past

Are soon shoved miles away

For mind over matter

Seems to be a much better way

Pure bliss and happiness, are closer than I once thought.

Well, today was a much better day.  I still don’t have a working cell phone, but I rather enjoyed unplugging for once and I think I accomplished a lot more because of it.  I’m still writing for Channillo, and so I added another chapter to my series today.  I’m up to 6 subscribers now!  Woo hoo!  Lol….  I know it doesn’t seem like much, but honestly… those 6 subscribers mean the world to me right now.  There’s just something about knowing that somebody, (anybody at all) is reading my very first book!  It tickles me to no end!  Yes, I’m smiling from ear to ear and doing the happy dance because of it.

Anyway, another thing that has me blissfully happy today, is the fact that I have been asked to start selling my poetry at one of our local shops downtown.  Today I was finally able to order most of the supplies that I will need.  I was able to find a ton of frames and mats on sale.  Now I just need to figure out how to personalize and decorate each one, to really make them stand out.  I’m just so excited to finally have the opportunity to move forward with selling some of my work.  I am no longer letting these opportunity’s pass me by.  It’s do or die time, and I need to be smart for once and take these God given opportunities that are finally crossing my path and just run with them.

Things on the home front have been improving.  Hubby and I have really been working through some tough issues and I believe that we are finally making immense progress.  My future seems to be clearer than it has been in a long time, and we have even been talking about writing a book together.  Hubby’s a huge history buff and I’m not very good with remembering historical details as much as he is, so I think by combining my love for writing and his love of history, we may end up coming up with something pretty amazing.  He’s been jotting down some ideas, and I think after the first of the year, we will begin to have some time to really sit down and plan what we want to write about.

I was gone all last week, as my oldest daughter recently got married in California.  The ceremony was beautiful and each of them wrote their own vows to one another.  I feel truly blessed, knowing that my daughter was able to find such an amazing husband.  She is in good hands and I feel like I can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that she will be well cared for.  They are both currently full-time missionary’s and seem excited to stay in the mission field.

Now that I’m back in Wisconsin, I’m really missing the warm weather that we had out there.  Of course I don’t miss the constant traffic that we had to deal with and the fast pace of life that seems to be the norm out there.  After growing up in California, I vowed never to move back.   (And really how can you, when each house is a million dollars plus on average.)  I am still very much content in my choice to stay in the mid-west, where daily life is more relaxed, less expensive, and where I can actually breathe the air without coughing up a lung.

Today has been a wonderful day, I slept in late, ran errands, went to our church small group this evening, and then I came home and proceeded with the normal day to day stuff that I needed to catch up on.  I feel content and happy right now and since it’s getting late here, I should sign off.  So if you’re reading this, I really do hope that you have a wonderful God filled week, full of joy and happiness.  Much love, to all my faithful readers.  You guys are the best!  ~M  xoxo

Just Me and You

IMG_3507edited

Not sure where

This road will take me

It’s hard to have hope

For the things I can’t see

Don’t want to complicate

Other people’s lives

Yet at the same time

It’s so hard to feel so alone inside

I think it comes down

To my own selfish desire

To have all that I want

Rather than all I actually require

And yet sometimes I feel like

I should have more

From the man I’ve truly loved

And have always adored

I’m willing to give this

Everything I’ve got

The years we’ve spent together

Have not been for naught

We’ve been together

Through the best and the worst

So I know that somehow

This mess can be reversed

I suppose time will be

What yields a new beginning

And eventually we will figure out

All that we’ve been missing

This road will still be long

And at times hard to travel

But I really want to stay on it

Before everything unravels

We’ve come too far

To leave things this way

I’d hate to see our lives

End up in complete disarray

There’s just got to be something

More we can do

We’ve just got to find a way back

To just me and you
