#MidnightMadness – 10/11/2017

I was busy writing in my office tonight, when my little Auti charged through the door and announced that she had a huge surprise for me.  She proceeded to drag me out of my office, through the living room, and then stopped me right in front of my bedroom door.  I was told to shut my eyes, and was then led into my bedroom where our family computer resides.  I was finally told to open my eyes and have a peek.  This is what was on the computer screen, written just for me…

Dear mommy I love you and I want to say you’re the best I love you and you love me every day is the best with you and I think you think the same thing I hope you’re doing well so I love you hopefully you enjoyed reading this as I loved writing this have a wonderful night from: autumn ;-D

This was just the sweetest note I could ever receive!  I think perhaps we need to work on her punctuation a bit, but there was no way I was going to point that out when her big blue eyes were staring up at me, looking for approval.  She’s currently in my bedroom again, writing poetry and yelling for me to come and take a look.  So I mustn’t keep her waiting!  Sounds like it’s a Christmas poem this time!  Lol… 😉

Tales of the Dark Side – (Part 1, The Broom Incident)

At the age of 19, I enlisted in the Army.  By the time I finally got shipped out, I was 20 years old and ready for the adventure of a lifetime.  After finishing boot camp and AIT (Advanced Individual Training), I decided it was time to go back home and visit my parents.  I’d like to say I was a bit smarter and wiser at that point, but as you’ll soon see, I was still really naïve.

I was fairly happy to be home again.  It had been two years since my mother had dared me to leave, and of course, I had been all too eager to accept her offer.  On this particular day, my parents left to go shopping and so I decided to tidy up a bit and surprise my mother like old times.  I began cleaning and scrubbing the entire house from top to bottom, and when I was finished, I wondered if there was anything else I could do to improve the place.

I noticed a cinnamon scented spice broom over by the hearth and remembered that I had sent it to my mother for Christmas.  I picked it up to see if it still smelled as good as I’d remembered, and was somewhat disappointed that the scent had mostly faded.  Around the top of the broom handle, was a small tag; and I was happy to see that it actually provided directions for maintaining the cinnamon scent.  After reading the directions over, I decided to give it a try.

The directions said to hold the broom over a pot of boiling water, in order for the steam to refresh the cinnamon smell.  So without any worries at all, I proceeded to the kitchen to steam the broom.  I was so excited, because I love the scent of cinnamon, and I knew my mother would be pleasantly surprised when she returned.  I hadn’t counted on what would happen next.

Laughter really is the best medicine

My girls were both sick this past week with the flu and I was feeling exhausted from the buckets of vomit, which seemed to be filling up faster than I could empty. As the weekend rolled around, I was definitely ready for a break. My husband told me he was planning an early birthday surprise for me and I figured with the girls being sick, he would just have to cancel whatever plans he had made.

Fortunately by Saturday afternoon, both of the girls were feeling much better and so hubby and I decided to make a break for it and leave the chaos behind. We had about an hour drive before we reached our destination. We finally arrived at a church and I was still completely clueless as to what my surprise could be. I knew it couldn’t be a marriage seminar, there were too many kids there for that! And it seemed too early in the day for a concert. So why else would we be at a church on a Saturday, at 3:00 in the afternoon?

After making our way inside, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that we were there to see my favorite Christian comedian, Tim Hawkins. I don’t think I have ever been more surprised in all my life and I have never laughed more than I did that afternoon. It was actually the first time that I had ever been surprised by my husband over the entire 22 years we’ve been married. I hope he keeps the surprises coming! Although I don’t know what he could ever do to top this! 😉

One thing that really spoke to me, was how Tim said, “The joy of the Lord is our strength.” I have heard that quoted so many times in my life, but I had never really thought about how powerful that statement is, or what it really means. After laughing so much during the show, I realized how energizing and strengthening laughter can be. Joy lifts our spirits and gives us the strength we need to make it through each and every day.

I realize now, that I need to laugh more and look for the joy in each day.  I want to be flooded with the strength that comes from being happy by knowing Jesus and appreciate the life which he has given to me. Today I am thankful for laughter and I wanted to share one of Tim Hawkins videos, so that all of you will have something to laugh about too! I hope you’re all having an amazing God filled week! 😉
