#weekendcoffeshare – Beware of the Madman

coffee-1117933_960_720

Good morning fellow bloggers!  How’s your week been?  It’s another chilly morning here in Wisconsin, but it’s supposed to be sunny all day and a high of 70°.  I’ve had to completely eliminate all caffeine from my diet this week due to some health issues.  So this morning, I’ve only made an herbal tea for myself; but I’ve got plenty of coffee in my pantry if you’d like me to brew you a batch.  Let’s chat for a while, shall we?

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you to be careful going out today.  There’s a crazy man loose in our city, and the authorities have yet to track him down.  Apparently, he has now stolen 18 guns and written a 161-page anti-government manifesto, which apparently he has sent to President Trump.  This man has apparently expressed an interest in attacking government officials and schools.  Thus the reason schools were on lockdown here on Thursday and closed altogether on Friday.  And so we sit tight, hoping and praying that this man is captured before he has a chance to do anything drastic.

I am not letting my girls go outside unsupervised right now.  Police have ramped up coverage of the city and patrol cars can be seen at all exits, and at every school and main crossroad.  There were even a bunch of patrol cars at the local elementary school last night, which is just a few blocks away from where I live.  Not sure what that was about, but it kept a lot of my neighbors on edge.

I feel sad that this has become a fairly normal occurrence these days, even in rather low crime communities like mine.  I am thankful that Spring Break is next week, so at least none of the kids will be in school during that time.  Gives the police a whole week to find this guy before having to decide what to do about the threats to the schools.

There hasn’t been a whole lot else going on this week.  Been the normal ups and downs and today will be the first warm weather day we’ve had in a very long time.  We were supposed to get snow this week, but fortunately, it never got cold enough and it mostly just rained.

I plan to get out in the garden today and really clean up the yard.  It’s quite a mess from the recent storms and I never got around to pruning everything back in the fall, so I have my work cut out for me.  I’m guessing it’ll take me all weekend to get everything done; maybe even longer than that.

I also promised my girls, that we’d at least do a pizza and movie night tonight.  Seeing as how I’ll probably be completely exhausted from all the yard work, I know I won’t feel like cooking.  We’re planning to watch at least one of these movies… A Monster Calls, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, or Passengers.  The only one I haven’t seen yet is A Monster Calls, so we’ll probably watch that one first.  The other two were both really good and I can’t wait to watch them again.

I seem to be watching movies more than normal these days.  I guess my girls are finally wearing me down.  I agreed that we should play some family games too.  My fifteen-year-old is learning how to play Mahjong and wants to play it this weekend.  I guess we’ll have to see how much we can fit in; with church, our small group meeting, and youth group on Sunday.  There’s always so much going on.

Well, I think I’ve rambled on long enough.  Anything new or exciting in your life?  If so, please leave me a comment and tell me all about it.  Otherwise, if you’re a coffee share blogger, I’ll be sure to come find you over at the link-up.

Have a great week everyone!  ~M  xoxo

  1. That is so frightening about the man. I hope they find him. It is so stressful when the whole community is on edge. Be safe! Hope you had a great movie night.

  2. I’m so sorry to hear the news and the horrible threat you’re living with. I remember what Sydney was like after a terrorist siege in Martin Place in the Lindt Cafe and 3 people died. We were all on tenderhooks for quite awhile and going anywhere near Martin Place become an active decision. Many decided it wasn’t worth the off chance of a copycat.
I have never been to the States but other bloggers have mentioned the Wisconsin is known for its cheese, which doesn’t sound like the sort of place you’d expect these things, but there are disturbed people everywhere, although we have tight gun laws in Australia which does help to prevent too much carnage.
I also feel for you with the running around madness. I try to keep my kids busy to keep them motivated and out of trouble. My daughter dances and I love the dancing and watching but now that’s venturing further afield…audition here, camp there. Meanwhile, my son is 13 and need I say more? They at least occupy a lot of brain space at that age.
I pray that the Police find this gunman and he receives the help it sounds like he needs.
    Bless you.
    xx Rowena

    • Yes it has been a bit unnerving, but we are trying to go about things as much as normal, just with more of a watchful eye. My daughter will most likely be starting ballet classes this summer. I recently found a dance studio near our home, so hopefully it works out. Thank you for your prayers Rowena, they are much appreciated! Hope you have a wonderful week!

      • Take care. A dance studio near your home is very important. If your daughter gets the bug, then they seem to collect classes like stamps and it makes such a difference when it is just down the road. It helps keep the madness in your head somewhat under control. It also means that my daughter is dancing with locals and our dance school has a strong local feel. Miss doesn’t go to school locally at the moment so that’s been quite important. Take care and I hope this man is taken into custody soon.
        Blessings,
        Rowena

        • Thank you, I agree about the dance classes. All of my other girls have taken dance, except for my youngest. She is determined to be a ballerina! Lol…. I hope they catch this man soon too. Seems like they have a ton of leads.

          • That’s so good your youngest wants to be a ballerina. My daughter started talking to me about wanting to join the Royal Australian Ballet. I tried to be encouraging but no doubt had that response of “You want to go to the moon? That’s lovely, Sweetie”!! However, someone has to get there and this year she’s like a different girl and has improved so much. I’m thinking it’s time to start worrying. That’s good they have so many leads. Thinking of you! xx Rowena

            • Oh that’s cute! It’s amazing how fast they progress. My daughter used to be in gymnastics, so I think she’ll do well. She really just needs social interaction. Since I home school her, she doesn’t get as much as most kids. And they still haven’t found the guy…. they’re going through all the abandoned houses right now. Hope you’re having a good week. 😉

  3. How scary to have some madman on the loose! I’m glad you’re safe, though. Enjoy your garden time. My roommate and I did our gardening a few weeks ago. It was my first attempt at such a thing. Normally I have a bit of a black thumb, so I hope I didn’t taint her garden… See you around on the Coffee Share!

    • Thanks Elizabeth! Oh, I normally have a black thumb too! And I positively butcher the yard every spring. I really have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to pruning, and yet everything continues to come back. So I guess it’s not all bad. I have tried to grow a vegetable garden several times, and could only ever grow weeds. Oh well, maybe someday somebody will come along and teach me what I’m doing wrong. Lol…. Have a great week ahead! 🙂

  6. Like you, I deplore that violence has become a the norm throughout the world. I cringe when I see the reports on the news. I pray the capture the party before anything bad happens. Good luck with your garden work and enjoy your time with family.
